Skills to Pay the Bills

Employability or Soft Skills Training lies at the core of Work Based Learning curriculum. These important character traits and interpersonal skills such as communication, collaboration, teamwork, time management, and work etiquette behavior serve as the core of basic social knowledge that young workers and academy interns need to succeed in all industries. Students also participate in online lessons through the Emerge Curriculum developed by Danny Rubin of Rubin Education.
General Work Experience/Business Internship classes use the RealCareer Employability Skills Curriculum to hone these skills every Wednesday morning. In addition, guest teachers from various industries engage students in lessons on a variety of topics from interview preparation and financial literacy to entrepreneurship and hospitality management.
Students are held accountable for their paid work/ internship performance through timely submission of paystubs, work hours sheets, and worksite evaluations. The work based learning coordinator/teacher serves as a liaison between the student and employer to communicate about which standards and expectations have been met.
